Questions

What is the rule in North Carolina?

Notice before a rent increase: No state rule (DoorKeeping uses 30 days). DoorKeeping last checked North Carolina's law on October 28, 2026. Check your city and county rules too: they can be stricter.

Can I raise the rent during a fixed-term lease?

Usually not, unless the lease says so. The rent stays as the lease says until it ends, and a new rent starts with the renewal. A month-to-month tenancy can change with the notice your state requires.

Does rent control limit how much I can raise the rent?

Some states and many cities limit how much or how often rent can go up. This form does not check rent limits, so check your city and county rules before you send it.

How do I deliver the notice?

Follow your lease and your state's rules for delivery, and keep proof: a signed copy, a dated photo or a mail receipt. In DoorKeeping, each notice is filled from the lease, checked against your state's rule and sent after your one-tap approval.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is a free standard form. Where DoorKeeping has checked your state's law, it uses that rule and the page shows the day we last checked it. It is not legal advice, and DoorKeeping is not a law firm. Check your city and county rules too: they can be stricter than the state.
