Questions
What is the rule in Alabama?
Notice before entering: 2 days (Ala. Code § 35-9A-303(c)). DoorKeeping last checked Alabama's law on October 30, 2026. Check your city and county rules too: they can be stricter.
Can I enter without notice in an emergency?
Most states allow entry without notice in a real emergency, such as a fire or a burst pipe. Check your state's rule, and tell the tenant afterwards what happened and why.
What times can I enter?
Use a reasonable time of day, usually normal working hours, unless the tenant agrees to another time. Some states set the hours. The notice invites the tenant to reply if the time does not work.
What reasons can I give?
Common reasons are repairs, inspections, showing the home to a buyer or a new tenant, and pest control. Name the reason plainly in the notice.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a free standard form. Where DoorKeeping has checked your state's law, it uses that rule and the page shows the day we last checked it. It is not legal advice, and DoorKeeping is not a law firm. Check your city and county rules too: they can be stricter than the state.
