How to switch from RentRedi to DoorKeeping: exports, cancelling and timing
In RentRedi, open each section you need, such as Renters, Rent, Properties or Maintenance, and click Export to download it as a spreadsheet. Save everything before you cancel from Settings, then cut over at a month end and tell tenants how rent is paid from then on.
What to export from RentRedi
RentRedi's help article How to export reports says the exportable sections are Properties, Renters, Rent, Maintenance, Communication, Prequalifications and Applications. To export one, open the section from your dashboard, click Export, and the report downloads as a spreadsheet file. For example, opening Renters and clicking Export gives a spreadsheet of all current tenants.
| What you need | RentRedi section | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Properties and units | Properties | Set up the same properties and units |
| Tenants and contact details | Renters | Source for the rent roll you import |
| Payment history and balances | Rent | Opening balances and a record of payments |
| Open and closed requests | Maintenance | Keep a history of repairs for each unit |
| Applications you want to keep | Applications, Prequalifications | Store under your state's rules |
RentRedi also has help articles on exporting payments, filtering by property before exporting, a security deposits report and a Schedule E report, per its help center listing. This guide did not open those articles, so look for them if you need accounting detail for your preparer.
How long does it take?
For a portfolio of a few dozen units, expect a few focused days across one to two weeks. Export a trial copy early so you can see whether your tenant and rent data is complete, then repeat the export on your cutover date for the final version.
What carries over
- Loaded: properties, units, tenants, rent and lease dates from the Renters and Properties exports.
- Checked once: balances and deposits on the cutover date, from the Rent export and the deposit report.
- Kept as files: payment history, maintenance history and applications.
Cancelling RentRedi
RentRedi's help article How to unsubscribe says to select your name in the upper right corner of the dashboard, choose Settings, scroll to Cancel Your Membership, click Cancel and finish the unsubscribe flow. The page does not mention refunds, billing terms or fees, so check your agreement and the billing history in your account for what applies to you. Search results for RentRedi's help center say subscription changes are made through the web portal rather than the mobile app, so use a browser; that was not confirmed on the page itself. If you also use credit boosting or other add-ons, check whether each is cancelled separately.
Cutover timing and telling tenants
- Pick the last day of a month and let the last RentRedi payments settle.
- Run the final Renters, Rent and Properties exports on the next business day.
- Load the rent roll and compare each balance and deposit.
- Send tenants one notice: the date, where to pay, the amount, that the lease is unchanged, and that any saved payment method in RentRedi ends on the cutover date.
- Cancel in Settings once the final payments have arrived and the files are saved.
Example a made-up 15 unit portfolio runs the Rent export on December 1 and finds $2,150 outstanding across three tenants and $22,500 in deposits. The new system must show the same $2,150 and $22,500 before the notice goes out.
How DoorKeeping handles it
Take the Renters and Properties spreadsheets, arrange them as one row per unit with tenant, rent and lease dates, and import them as a CSV or XLSX file. DoorKeeping reads the units, tenants and leases for you to confirm. Each property has its own books, and you ask Claude or ChatGPT to look things up or start actions, with money and legal steps waiting for your approval.
Rent and payments stay in your own bank accounts. DoorKeeping never holds your money and sends a payment only when you approve it. The price is $2 per unit per month, every feature included.
