How to disconnect Claude or ChatGPT from your rental software
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and remove DoorKeeping. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps and Connectors, and remove DoorKeeping. The connection stops working right away and your records stay where they were. Do it whenever a device is lost, a helper leaves or you simply stop using that AI app.
When to disconnect
- A phone or laptop with your AI app signed in is lost or stolen.
- Someone who used your AI account, such as a virtual assistant, no longer works with you.
- You are switching from one AI app to another and want only one connection open.
- You shared a computer for a while and want a clean slate.
- You are not sure what is connected and want to start again.
There is no cost to disconnecting. Connecting again takes a minute, so when in doubt, remove it.
The steps
In Claude
- Open Settings.
- Choose Connectors.
- Find DoorKeeping and remove it.
In ChatGPT
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps and Connectors.
- Find DoorKeeping and remove it.
Menu names change as the apps update. If you do not see them, search the settings page for "connectors" or "apps".
What happens after you remove it
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does the AI app still see my records? | No. The connection stops working right away. |
| Are my records deleted? | No. They stay in DoorKeeping. Only the link from the AI app is gone. |
| Does the history in the AI chat disappear? | No. Old chats may still show what was said. Delete them in the AI app if they hold details you want gone. |
| Can I reconnect? | Yes. Add the connector again and choose the portfolio on the Allow screen. |
The Allow screen is where you choose which portfolio an AI app can read. The connection standard behind these apps expects that an access grant can be limited and withdrawn by the person who gave it (see the MCP authorization specification).
If a device is lost, do more than disconnect
- Sign out of the AI app on all devices from its security settings.
- Remove the connector, as above.
- Change the password of the email account you use to sign in, and check that two-factor sign-in is on.
- Check the recent activity log for anything you did not do.
- Reconnect from a device you trust.
The most important point is that money moves only after you accept an approval on doorkeeping.com, so a connected AI app alone cannot pay a bill or send a notice.
A quarterly connection review
Once a quarter, spend five minutes on what is connected. Open the connectors list in each AI app you use and ask three questions about every entry.
- Do I still use this app?
- Does it still need to see my rental records?
- Is the account it runs on one only I control, with two-factor sign-in on?
Remove anything that fails a question. Fewer connections means fewer places for a mistake or a lost device to matter. If you share an AI account with a partner or an assistant, consider giving each person their own account and their own connection, so the audit log shows who did what.
A connection is permission, not ownership. You can give it, narrow it and take it back at any time, and a tool that makes that hard is a tool to think twice about. Ask the same of every service you let an AI app reach, not only your rental software.
How DoorKeeping handles it
Disconnecting is done in the AI app, and takes effect at once on DoorKeeping's side. Every action your AI app took is in the audit log with who did it, so you can see what happened before you removed it. Two-factor sign-in protects doorkeeping.com, where the approvals queue lives. Money, signatures, legal notices and applicant decisions always wait there for your own tap.
